Dr Jane Andrews

I currently work at the University of the West of England as a lecturer in education with a focus on language and learning in both my teaching and my research. I developed an interest in researching multilingually whilst working on the ESRC TLRP project on Home-School Knowledge Exchange in Primary Education (see http://www.tlrp.org/proj/phase11/phase2e.html). In that project I collaborated with a community interpreter in order to engage in conversations about children’s learning with parents from linguistically diverse backgrounds living in Bristol and Cardiff, UK.   The specific challenges arising from engaging in research where shared language(s) and cultural understandings cannot be taken for granted raised many interesting questions for me in terms of the relationship between research participants and researcher and between interpreter and researcher. I appreciate the opportunity to explore such areas further within this research network.
